He said- "I am smarter than you!"

                                  

It is said that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus. But, does it imply that 'Men can be smarter than Women' in any sense? And, that is why, when a colleague actually told me blatantly on face that he is "smarter" than me, it got me thinking. I decided to ponder over this thought for a while and to go to the roots of such a prevailing notion. So is it actually true? We'll see..

 Now, let us start with the analysis of the above statement by assuming first-handedly that 'Men are smarter than woman'. But then, what made everyone believe so? Let us take a sneak-peek into the ancient, medieval and  recent times to investigate the source of such questions, to enlighten ourselves with the reason behind such incessant thinking. 

Right from the Stone Age, this thought has pertained to almost everybody, even to the victim of such thinking- Women! This thinking is so widespread and ages old that people tend to believe it just like that. They assume that 'men are smarter', by default. Maybe, that is why, it is said that a woman may take orders from anything in a pair of trousers! 

But what gave birth to this biased thinking? Did men craft it themselves? What made them believe that they are good, better or best in every field of life?  Almost all the fields i.e.- Music, Dance, Science, Entrepreneurship, Economics/Finance etc have both men and woman doing equally well. Maybe not quantitatively, but yes, qualitatively women have contributed to all of these. And, that is why, raising the ages-old ballyhooing of "Women are equal to Men" and bla bla bla won't cover my point. Because, it is already understood and acclaimed by most of us (who are from this century).

Smart is too common a word or maybe even wrongly used in this context. I'd say that men are more light-headed, sharp, spontaneous and carefree. But, they were not so since they were a sperm! In fact, men and women were born alike as infants (obviously, except the genitals). Initially, both are light-headed, spontaneous, carefree and "smart". But, then, girls grow up, they start bleeding for seven days a month and everything changes! Their breasts grow and so does the number of perverts staring at them! Now, she cannot stay carefree, she has lost her spontaneity. Now, she has to think before doing anything. Here is a list of things that women (of varying ages) have to think about everyday. An average woman thinks-

- how to be safe

- how is she looking before stepping out.

- of the things she'd have to carry in her handbag. 

- about the length of her dress.

- about the colour of the dress if she is on periods.

- how to deal with the eve-teasers. Mostly, how to ignore them.

- how to find her way in/out in a crowded bus/metro without brushing her boobs     against a stranger.

- what to cook when she reaches home from office.

- how do make round chapatis.

- how to take care of her children and family.

- how to sit, walk and talk, like a lady.

- how to be safe
- how to be safe
- how to be safe.

These are some of the umpteen number of things a woman always has on her mind. Now, if her mind and brain are not worn out, she can try being smart too! Being smart is not an easy task and not the only task for us. We are smart, smarter than every other creature in so many things. Nobody can beat our intellect and intuition. But then, we might do some silly things while being smart, viz.- pushing a door when it is clearly written to pull it, forget our ways and forgetting something or the other every time. But, cut us some slack here. We can be forgetful about such stuffs because we have other more important things to think about. About you men! Yes! Either, how to be safe from the perverts of your species or how to take care of some very adorable and important counterparts of it. And, in some cases, both combined! So bear with us.

And, men are not smarter always. Smart men may fall prey to smarter women. They just have to smile, cry or take off their clothes! ;)
